Parents deliver baby after midwives got lost on the way to their house - Coventry Telegraph

A mum has told how she delivered her own baby after midwives got lost on the way to her house. Donna Billson had planned a home birth but the midwives who had been due to arrive to help her got lost on the way. But the 37-year-old from Coleshill didn’t panic and instead calmly gave birth to her little girl with the help of her husband Andy. Rejecting advice she should call for an ambulance to help, Donna delivered her daughter Laila straight into her husband Andy’s arms. “There was a bit of a comedy moment when I could see my husband running around trying to get the birthing pool up in the lounge but not being able to get the attachment to fit to any of our taps. ” says Donna. “He’d only got around an inch of water in when I said ‘Stop filling the pool, the baby’s coming. “The midwife rang to say she’d got lost and couldn’t find us. We’re a bit off the beaten track and it was dark. Abandoning the pool, Andy was trying to direct the midwives to our house as my waters broke. They advised him we needed to phone an ambulance to which I immediately said I didn’t need one. Donna used a hypnobirthing technique during labour, which involves relaxation, breathing and self-hypnosis. She decided to give it a go after enjoying the benefits of reiki to ease the pain of Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) a painful condition she developed at 16 weeks pregnant caused by misalignment and stiffness of the pelvis. “All the time this was happening, I maintained my completely relaxed state, concentrating on my breathing and listening to my hypnobirthing affirmations on the CD as Andy continued to support me. “Then there was a big moan and Andy got down on his... They sat cuddled up in towels for 20 minutes until the midwife arrived and helped them cut the cord. Story Link How much exercise should I do while pregnant. “I felt like I could have taken on the world,” says Donna, who is also mum to Darcie, 10. “I had a huge rush of adrenaline. I felt such empowerment that I’d done this without any medical staff to help me, that my body had done what it was supposed to do. “The hypnobirthing class really helped. Andy had been very involved in the classes and wanted to be part of it. In labour there was a time when he went off trying to ring people and I lost it a little bit but he came back and calmed me right. Source: www.coventrytelegraph.net

I 'waist trained' after my 5th baby and the results were dramatic - SheKnows.com

Other celebs like Real Housewives of Atlanta 's Kim Zolciak have also jumped on the waist training trend and at first glance, it may seem like one more silly celebrity-started trend bent on making women feel bad about their current figures. Yet, I have to agree momma Kim K on this one (which may be the only time I ever write that sentence). Belly binding is awesome. I've given birth to five babies, so when it comes to the toll that pregnancy takes on your body (Hint: You're never going to be the same, and that's OK. ), I have a lot of experience. For my first four, I recovered the traditional way, which just meant a lot of rest and yoga pants. But, by my last baby, devices like The Taut and the Belly Bandit had reintroduced the concept of postpartum belly binding. "This is so good for you. I will never understand why more American women won't do this," my sweet Trinidadian nurse huffed as she helped wrangle me into a postpartum girdle hours after my last baby was born. "Everyone does this where I am from. At first, I was leery of the idea of forcing my poor middle to do anything after childbirth, but the instant she helped me sit up, I realized why women have been wrapping their bellies postpartum for millennia: It felt amazing. The band supported my Jell-O core and made me feel like my organs were returning to their anatomically appropriate locations. It didn't make me look much thinner (it was very visible under clothing), but I wore the waist cincher for 40 days after my baby was born, and I can honestly say that the recovery from my fifth baby was quicker than any of my previous four. When I went in for my six-week postpartum checkup, rather than being disapproving, as I had feared, my doctor was delighted I'd done it. My diastasis recti, the separation between my abdominal muscles in the front, was almost completely healed —... My doc explained the girdle had acted as a splint, allowing my muscles to neatly knit back together by taking the pressure off them to hold up my core. Not every woman gets a diastasis during pregnancy but for those of us who do, recovery can be a long and painful process. Often surgery is the only treatment for severe cases, so the fact that I could help it at all with a simple piece of elastic was awesome. But, waist training — the practice of wearing ever-tighter corsets to shrink one's. Source: www.sheknows.com

Corsets after pregnancy? It's a thin thing - Today.com (blog)

It’s a common question from women after giving birth, especially with their first child: When will my favorite pre-pregnancy jeans fit again. In the face of so many ways to get slim -- diet plans, exercise programs, juice fasts -- Jessica Alba captured the fascination of many when she revealed the secret behind her toned post-pregnancy body. The actress, whose daughters are 4 and almost 2, told the fashion website Net-A-Porter that she wore not one, but two girdles to help get her shape back. “It was brutal. it’s not for everyone,” Alba, 32, told the website. “I wore a double corset day and night for three months. It was sweaty, but worth it. ”. Abdominal compression garments like corsets and binders that tightly pull in the tummy after childbirth have been around for decades, if not longer. The products, also used after surgery, have gained popularity as manufacturers tout myriad benefits like helping to shrink the postpartum belly, waist and hips. The garments were commonly worn by the Hispanic women that Cecilia Jevitt treated in Florida for three decades as a certified nurse midwife. But Jevitt, who now directs the midwifery education program at Yale, has seen them grow in popularity among all women in the last three to four years. “Wearing a binder or some sort of corset postpartum has become very popular for mothers of all kind,” said Jevitt, who attributes their wider use in part to celebrities promoting them. “Promises are being made by manufacturers that this speeds postpartum recovery and that you can effortlessly gain back your abdominal muscle tone," she added. “Physiologically, it doesn’t make sense to me,” she said, though there’s no harm in wearing one. Jevitt recommends her patients wear them for six to eight weeks after delivery for comfort and support, especially for women who had a cesarean section or are obese. “Wearing an external binder or corset gives the muscles support while they’re healing postpartum,” Jevitt said. “It doesn’t make mothers magically lose weight. Kristen Alfred started wearing a Belly Bandit belly wrap about a week after she had her first child on April 2. Alfred, 28, wore one daily for about two weeks “to help push everything back into place. ” She thinks it helped her get back into her jeans in about two weeks more quickly. “I felt a little more confident because you get that pooch after,” said Alfred, of.
